Pearls were the softly glowing stars of Christie’s royal jewels auction in Geneva this week. The auction, described only as the property of a royal house, brought in a total of over $31 million, easily beating the estimate of around $20 million. One of the stars of the show was this parure (a fancy word for a set of jewels meant to be worn together). The Gulf Pearl Parure, a pearl and diamond set created by Harry Winston, brought in around $4.1 million, the low end of the estimate. Items that went over estimate included unset saltwater pearls.
No word on which royal house the jewels came from but the Middle East Times says that rumors have said it could be Saudi. More pieces from the same Royal House are on sale today as part of the second part of the Van Cleef & Arpels tribute auction including a stunning ruby and diamond parure (it’s my word of the day) that is estimated to sell for over half a million dollars.
